Dr. Hartsell is the co-medical
director of Radiation Oncology
at Good Samaritan Cancer Center
and is the president of Radiation
Oncology Consultants, Ltd.
He is board-certified in Radiation
Oncology. After completing
his training, Dr. Hartsell
was an Assistant Professor
at Rush-Presbyterian St. Lukes
Medical Center in Chicago
for 6 years. He was director
of the residency program for
3 years. He was also an Associate
Professor at the University
of Tennessee, Memphis, where
he was Clinical Director of
the Adult Radiation Oncology
program. He has been in private
practice with Radiation Oncology
Consultants, Ltd. for the
past 7 years.
Dr. Hartsell has expertise
in the use of conformal 3-D
therapy, intensity modulated
radiation therapy (IMRT),
stereotactic radiosurgery,
high dose rate brachytherapy,
and permanent brachytherapy
(seed implants). He has directed
a number of national studies,
published and presented numerous
papers, and given local and
national lectures on various
topics regarding cancer treatment,
including many papers on breast
cancer, brain tumors, prostate
cancer, head & neck cancer,
Hodgkin’s disease and palliative
care.
Dr. Hartsell is a board member
of the Illinois Chapter of
the American Cancer Society.
He speaks at many ACS events
and is involved in Cancer
Awareness Day. He spends his
leisure time watching and
coaching his children’s sporting
events, and attending school
and church activities.
When asked why he chose Radiation
Oncology, he states, "I was
interested in another field,
but when I saw the effect
radiation therapy had a patient’s
quality of life during medical
school, I knew this was the
specialty for me. I love the
rapidly changing technologic
advances and how they improve
patient care."
