Dr. Thukral will be joining ROCL in September of 2011. She attended college and medical school at the University of Michigan where she completed a combined MD/MPH program. Dr. Thukral completed her internship and residency training in radiation oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. During her residency, she conducted research in the areas of breast, lung, and esophageal cancers, proton radiation therapy, and quality of life in head and neck cancer patients. She has presented her research nationally and internationally and published her findings in several prominent journals.
Dr. Thukral is trained in the use of 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), gamma knife radiosurgery, proton beam radiotherapy, high dose rate brachytherapy, and permanent interstitial brachytherapy. She treats a broad range of cancers including breast, lung, brain, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and gynecologic malignancies. Dr. Thukral also has a strong interest in issues relating to quality of life for patients and their families as they undergo radiation therapy.
Dr. Thukral enjoys spending her leisure time with her husband and son. She also likes gourmet cooking, traveling, dancing, and photography.
When asked why she chose radiation oncology, she states, "I am attracted to this specialty because it is an intellectual and technically-driven discipline with the physician-patient relationship at its core. As a radiation oncologist, I have the privilege and opportunity to help and support cancer patients and their families through the challenging treatment journey they endure."
