Dr. Patel primarily practices at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, IL. and St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, IL. He is board certified in Radiation Oncology. He completed his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He attended medical school at Wayne State University, and completed his residency at Wayne State University - Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit Michigan. Dr. Patel was chief resident from 2004 through 2005. He went on as an Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology at Wayne State University/ Karmanos Cancer Center. There he served as the primary Radiation Oncologist for Prostate cancer, other Genitourinary cancers, Endometrial, Cervical, and other Gynecological cancers. He has done research in Genitourinary and Gynecological cancers and has won the Delmar H. Mahrt, M.D. award for research. He has written publications and given lectures locally and nationally on topics in his research. He has been in private practice with Radiation Oncology Consultants since 2008.
Dr. Patel is trained in the use of intensity modulated radiation therapy(IMRT), IMRT with RapidArc, Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), conformal 3-D radiation therapy, high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR), breast brachytherapy (Contura, MammoSite and SAVI) permanent prostate brachytherapy (seed implants) and Tomotherapy. He has a particular interest in genitourinary malignancies, gynecologic malignancies, breast cancer, sarcoma, palliative care and brachytherapy.
Dr. Patel spends his leisure time with his wife and their two boys. He also enjoys traveling, University of Michigan sporting events, golfing and long distance running.
When asked why he chose Radiation Oncology, he states, "within the field of medicine Radiation Oncology was the perfect fit for me because it allows us to make meaningful differences in our patients' survival and quality of life. The combination of patient interaction and continuity of care was really the combination for me."
