Dr.
Schabinger the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at
Illinois Masonic's
Cancer Center. He is
board-certified in Radiation
Oncology. After completing
his training at Rush
Presbyterian St. Lukes,
he remained on staff
as a clinical associate
professor. Dr. Schabinger
has been in private
practice with Radiation
Oncology Consultants
since 1982. He was a
clinical associate professor
at the University of
Illinois, and is currently
an associate professor
at Chicago Medical School.
Dr. Schabinger has expertise
in gynecologic, prostate,
and breast malignancies. He
treats patients with 3-D conformal
radiotherapy, intensity modulated
radiation therapy (IMRT),
and low-dose and high-dose
rate brachytherapy, having
founded a very successful
high-dose rate program at
Lutheran General. He is an
active member of numerous
professional organizations,
having been a member of the
Radiation Therapy Committee
of the Gynecologic Oncology
Group and an accreditation
site visitor for the American
College of Radiology for radiation
oncology.
Dr. Schabinger served as
a member on the local school
board for eight years and
continues as a trustee for
the district foundation. He
has been active in scouting
as a leader for his three
sons, and enjoys guitar, piano,
and golf in his leisure time.
When asked
why he chose radiation
oncology, he states,
"I like the patient
contact, the personal
interactions, and the
variation of clinical
and disease presentations.
I appreciate and enjoy
the long-term patient-doctor
relationship which is
part of the radiation
treatment process."
Dr.
Schabinger serves on
medical physics PhD
review panels. He is
also on the Radiation
Therapy Committee.
